This universal transceiver module is as small as an Atmel ATTINY84 in a DIL14 package. Why an AVR ATTINY? Because the module can optionally carry this controller. So you are free to utilize the CC1101 directly with your own SPI-enabled controller or you may program the onboard ATTINY to your needs - using its I/O.
